This Privacy Policy describes how your mobile application ("the App") handles personal information. The App is built using Kotlin Multiplatform and interacts with a backend server hosted on Render.com to provide localized hiking trivia.

1. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide Voluntarily

The App does not require user accounts, registration, or logins. However, when you use the trivia feature, the App sends specific data to our server to fulfill your request:

  • Trail Title: The name of the hiking trail you are viewing.

  • Region: The geographic region of the trail (e.g., Tuscany, Dolomites).

  • Language Preference: The language in which you want to read the trivia.

B. Automatically Collected Information

We do not use tracking cookies, analytics SDKs, or persistent device identifiers. Our backend server hosted on Render.com may temporarily process standard server logs (such as IP addresses) strictly for infrastructure security, rate limiting, and debugging purposes. These logs are automatically deleted in accordance with Render’s standard retention policies.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the submitted trail data exclusively to generate AI-driven historical, cultural, or geological trivia via our backend integration with the Google Gemini API.

  • No Retention: We do not save, store, or profile the trail titles or regions you search for.

  • No Commercialization: Your data is never sold, rented, or used for targeted advertising.

3. Third-Party Data Processors

To deliver the AI agent functionality, your data flows through the following infrastructure components:

  • Render.com (Hosting Provider): Hosts our Node.js/TypeScript backend application that routes your requests.

  • Google AI Studio / Gemini API: Processes the trail title and region under strict system instructions to generate the trivia text. This data is processed in accordance with Google's API Privacy Terms, which state that data sent via paid or developer API tiers is generally not used to train Google’s public AI models.

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information during transit:

  • HTTPS Encryption: All communications between the Kotlin Multiplatform client app and the Render server, as well as between the Render server and the Gemini API, are fully encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS).

5. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13. Since no personal data or account creation is required to use the app, we do not intentionally track or maintain identifying data about any user.
